Understanding Computers: Functions, Types, and Computer Components

Understanding Computers Is :

Computer Definition is an electronic device that can be used to process data in accordance with procedures that have been formulated beforehand so as to produce useful information for its users.

Definition of a computer is an electronic device that consists of a series of various components that are interconnected so as to form a work system. The system in the computer can do work based on the program ordered when making existing data and programs.

In General Computers consist of 3 main elements, including :
  1. Hardware which consists of Processor, RAM, Harddisk, Motherboard, and CPU.
  2. Software namely the operating system and also various applications that are inserted into the hardware and according to the request of the user.
  3. Computer Users (Brainware), namely users or computer operators.
Etymologically, the word "computer" comes from Latin, which is "Computare" which means counting. Understanding simple computers to calculate arithmetic.

Understanding Computers According to Experts :

1. Robert H. Blissmer

According to Robert H. Blissmer, the notion of computers is an electronic device that can perform several tasks, namely accepting input, processing inputs according to instructions given, storing orders-processes and processing results, and providing output in the form of information.

2. V. C. Hamacher

According to V. C. Hamacher, computer resolution is an electronic counting machine that is fast and can receive digital input information, then processes it according to the program stored in its memory, and produces output that contains information.

3. Donald H. Sanders

According to Sanders, the notion of computers is an electronic system that is used to manipulate data quickly and precisely, designed and organized so that it can automatically receive and store data, process data to produce output that is in accordance with what is stored in memory.

3. William M. Fuori

According to Fuori, the notion of computers is a data processing tool that can do big and fast calculations, including arithmetic calculations and logistics operations, and there is no human intervention.

4. Robert H. Blissmer

According to Robert H. Blissmer, the notion of computers is an electronic device that can perform several tasks to receive input, process input, store commands and produce output that produces information.

5. Williams & Sawyer

According to Williams & Sawyer, computer resolution is a machine that can be programmed, can receive data (facts and rough images) and process or manipulate data into information that can be used.

Computer functions :

Basically computers are very diverse, depending on the users. Referring to the computer definition above, the following are the approved functions :

1. Data Input

Computers can receive information or data from other sources. The data is received through activity on the keyboard, mouse, from other computers or other equipment.

2. Data Processing

One of the main functions of a computer is to process data so that it produces output, which is in the form of information. Flipping, data processed in a computer is text, images, audio, video, graphics, and others

3. Output Data

The next function of the computer is to produce output / information after going through data processing. This information can be presented through monitors, printer devices, and speakers.

4. Data Storage

Computers can be used as a place to store data that can be easily found and reused. The data can be stored in the computer's internal memory or external memory.

5. Data Movement

Another function of a computer is to move data from one computer to another or various other output devices.

Computer Components :

Based on its function, components in a computer can be divided into three groups, namely Input, Process, and Output.

1. Input Components

This component is a hardware component that has a function that provides various tasks to be given to the computer. Some components are inputted :
  1. Keyboard, provide input or input consisting of alphanumeric and other ASCII interpretations.
  2. Mouse and Trackpad, a tool that connects brainware with a monitor screen.
  3. Pena (for touch screens), functions like a mouse, but is pen-shaped.
  4. Scanner, a tool for translating images that will be inserted into a computer system.
  5. Microphone, a tool for inputting data in audio form.
2. Process Components

This component has a function to process data or processing provided by the brainware which is then approved by the output component.

Some process components are :
  1. Processor, which is the main component in the process of processing data.
  2. Motherboard, which is the connecting component of various other components in the computer.
  3. Hard Disk, which is a component for storing data that is permanent in a computer, for example a computer operating system.
  4. RAM, which is memory to store various computer activities temporarily.
3. Output Component

This is a component that has a function to display information from commands that have been requested by the computer.

Some output components are :
  1. Monitor, a computer component that can display the process that is being worked on by a computer.
  2. Printers, components that can print information in hard copy.
  3. Speaker, a component that can produce audio or sound output.
Computer Types :

Based on the shape and size, computers can be divided into seven types of computers. The following type of computer :

1. Portable Computer

This is a type of computer that is easy to carry anywhere, while its use for research purposes in the field and moving. This type of computer is less popular because it is heavier and bigger than a laptop in general.

2. Desktop Computers

As the name implies, this is a computer on the table. This computer has a separate CPU from the monitor and keyboard.

3. Palmtop computer

This is a computer that is small and can be grasped. This type of computer has been very rarely used since the invention of a Smartphone.

4. Computer Tower

This is a computer that is larger than a desktop computer and is usually placed above or beside a desk. This computer can add support devices because it has many expansion slots.

5. Notebook computer

This is a type of laptop but with a thinner size. More used by students, instructors, and researchers who need complex and lightweight computer devices.

6. Handbook (Sub-notebook)

This is a type of notebook that is smaller than a notebook in general. Have a handbook that has a processor with low specifications.

7. Laptop Computer

This is the type of computer that can be set on the user's lap. The laptop has a CPU, monitor and keyboard that is easy to carry everywhere.

Thus a brief explanation of the understanding of computers, functions, components, and types of computers. Easy-discussing this article is useful and adds to your insight.
